National Handloom Day Celebration

On the occasion of National Handloom Day, celebrated on 7th August 2026, the Department of Fashion Design, Mandsaur University, organized an awareness and orientation programme from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The programme aimed to promote awareness of India’s rich handloom heritage and introduce new students to traditional textiles, weaving, craftsmanship, and sustainable fashion practices.

The programme also provided an interactive platform for senior students to welcome the newly admitted students and share knowledge about handloom and fashion.

Activity Details

The department organized a special display featuring a Mini Handloom Setup, Charkha (Spinning Wheel), and different types of threads, woven fabric samples, and other handloom-related materials. These displays provided students with practical exposure to traditional textile-making processes.

The programme included the following activities:

  • Welcome Session: Senior students warmly welcomed the newly admitted students to the Fashion Design Department.
  • Introduction to Handloom: Faculty members and senior students provided brief information about the history, importance, traditional techniques, and cultural significance of Indian handloom.
  • Student Introduction: Newly admitted students introduced themselves, helping them become comfortable and familiar with their seniors and faculty members.
  • Documentary Screening: Informative documentary videos related to Indian handloom, weaving traditions, artisans, and textile craftsmanship were shown to the students.
  • Interactive Tasks: Senior students assigned various creative and informative tasks to the junior students, which they completed enthusiastically. The activities encouraged interaction, teamwork, creativity, and learning.
