About Library & Information Sciences
The Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS) established in 2016 with aim to provide LIS education to the students through effective teaching and practical training. The department is working with the vision to educate individuals for career as Librarians, Library Information Officers, Archivists, Information Scientist and Knowledge Managers. The students are trained to undertake instruction, research and service-oriented programmes that require current emerging information technological developments and market requirements. Presently the department is offering one year Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences (B. Lib. I. Sc.), one year Master of Library and Information Sciences (M. Lib. I. Sc), and Ph.D. courses in Library and Information Science. The department has dedicated and experienced faculty members who delivered latest LIS education to the students. As far as research is concerned, 4 Ph.D. scholars have completed their research degree from the department. The major areas of research in the department are ICT applications in Libraries, User-studies, the thrust areas of the research are emerging trends and technologies in the Libraries such as Digital Libraries, IITs, Libraries, Collection Management, Open Access Initiatives and Growth of Libraries in Digital era, Analysis in Agricultural Libraries, etc.
